I barely blinked and we are already in the last month of the first quarter of 2024. With a view to unwind somewhat, I took some time on a sunny March morning to get my fill of Vitamin D. My eyes fell upon a bird building her nest reminding me again of how it is the natural instinct of all creatures to plan ahead of time.

Now that most of us have our strategy in place, it is likely that the governance mechanism has kicked in and we are inundated by the data filling our inboxes, waiting for our attention.

How do your workforce KPIs look? Do you feel your team productivity is a bit off? If yes, then you may want to map organizational and team competencies.

What are competencies? A bunch of Knowledge and Skills put together with the right Attitude (your very own KSA set). To make that work, what we do is sketch out the list of “must haves” and “would like to haves” for every job family in the organization. The organizational chart could be a good starting point. Next, develop a nomenclature for every item on your list, and define various levels of competence for each of them. Once your KSA is in place, simply map every individual against that, and identify the gaps.

The rest is truly simple. Add the gaps to your training calendar and you have a plan in place to up the KSA of every team member.

Pretty much like solving a jigsaw, right?
